Hike the hinterland, visit QLD's beloved beaches or explore Brisbane
Although Brisbane and the Gold Coast are at the heart of this region, the South East has an enduring love for the great outdoors, and that's where most visitors head.
Elabana Falls in Lamington National Park
A short drive away from the city centres brings you to some of the most striking natural beauty Australia has to offer. Bushwalking, scenic drives and some off-road 4WD tracks are on offer through the dense rainforests of the Lamington, Springbrook and the Border Ranges National Parks, nestled behind the Gold Coast. Heading west of Brisbane sees you planted in the fertile farmlands of the Lockyer Valley, home to the finest natural produce of the region.
Koala on Stradbroke Island
Alternatively, head further north to the hinterland behind the Sunshine Coast's glistening beaches to access the dramatic, craggy Glasshouse Mountains and all their glory. A challenging hike to the top of Mt Tibrogargan is available for those who don't mind giving their legs a bit of a workout, or a scenic drive through the hinterland offers some spectacular views of the mountain while allowing some indulgence in the luxuries of towns like Maleny and Montville – think boutique shops, incredible handmade fudge, vibrant markets, tasty organic food and vistas that stretch the length of the golden coast.
