Today we crossed the border of Thailand and into Laos. I didnt really know anything about Laos before I went but soon fell in love with the place. With a population of just 7 million, you could just see how untouched and peaceful the place is. We were going to be spending the next two days sailing down the Mekong River. This was one of the best experiences on the trip. Never did I imagine that I'd be sailing down the Mighty Mekong listening to old school hip hop drinking Beer Lao. We entertained ourself playing Uno and a very competitive game of Snap. Some of the guys really got on the Beer Laos and eventually drank the small boat out of beer. As you can see from these snaps it's just so beautiful. So green. It's absolutely so hard to capture just how lovely it is on camera! We stayed in a guest house in a river side village called Pakbeng. It was completely off the beaten track and we really got to experience Laos life after the craziness of Thailand. The guesthouse we stayed in was simple but fine. Considering they'd only got electricity 6 years previously it even had semi decent wifi. It constantly surprises me how such rural areas can get the Internet! The second day we set sail again but I was crazy ill this day. I had terrible night terrors and a hangover to boot. I just felt rotten. Really rotten. We stopped off at Pak Ou caves. Our Guide told us all about the Tam Ting Cave which is one of the most scared spots. The caves were carved into a cliff and we had to climb up approximately 20000 steps to get to the top. Once I got to the top and coughed up my lungs it was worth the hike. The cave was packed full of over 4000 images of Buddha and was a real sight to see! It also had some of the best views of the whole trip. Arriving in Luang Praband we went for some local style street food which was less than £1 for a plate of food. It wasnt that great but it was super cheap. We then wandered around the beautiful markets, the ones in Luang Prabang were probably my favourite from the whole trip. It wasnt full of touristy crap but a mix of lovely handmade crafts and trinkets. To finish the night we headed to a local backpacker style bar called Utopia. It was amazing, such fun and we met so many great people. One of the girls on our trip bumped into someone she went to uni with! Such a small world!

After more than two years of negotiations, the European Union (EU) and Vietnam reached an agreement in principle for a new free trade deal. Our team believes this deal marks an important milestone not only for Vietnam, but sets an important precedent for other countries in Southeast Asia, a region of particular interest to us. Vietnam has experienced a drop in exports this year—which some have said may have contributed to a devaluation of its currency, the dong, for the third time this year in August. With that backdrop, this trade deal with the EU could prove even more important for Vietnam. The new trade agreement means Vietnam’s exports could see a boost amid broader access to the EU—whose member-countries collectively represent one of the largest economies in the world. Vietnam’s key exports to the EU include telephones and parts, electronic products, footwear, textiles and clothing, coffee, rice, seafood and furniture, while the EU exports primarily high-tech products including electrical machinery and equipment, aircraft, vehicles and pharmaceutical products to Vietnam. I think part of Vietnam’s impetus for this deal is to lessen the country’s dependence on China, its largest trading partner. There have been some tensions recently between the two countries over drilling rights in waters claimed by both countries as their exclusive territory. Additionally, the recent weakening of China’s yuan (devalued in August) would make Vietnam’s exports even less competitive and could further worsen its trade balance. We see Vietnam’s subsequent currency devaluation as a necessary measure in light of the fact that the dong had been much stronger than some other currencies in the region. Other important aspects of the trade deal may be of interest to international investors. Besides eliminating tariffs, Vietnam will also remove almost all of its export duties. Vietnam is not only focused on traditional export drivers such as commodities; it has been opening up new market access opportunities in services and investments. In general, political progress—or the lack thereof—can be a key factor in unlocking economic potential in Asia. While Vietnam remains a Communist-ruled country, its leaders seem to be embracing capitalism, at least in some respects. Vietnam’s recent removal of limits on foreign investment in many areas (which had been capped at 49% of a listed company) looks encouraging to us. Its government has also been focused on developing a strong technology sector in particular, offering financial incentives and tax breaks. Vietnam is clearly attracting investor interest. While its market is still relatively small, it may come as a surprise that Vietnam was second only to China as the most-popular investment destination in the Asia-Pacific region, as of 2014. Bordering China, the country has strategic importance in the region, and offers a number of positives that have attracted this interest, including low-cost labor, strong domestic growth potential and a youthful demographic. Chinese firms are already active investors in Vietnam, taking advantage of significantly lower wage rates in comparison with Southern China. As investors in Vietnamese stocks, the primary constraints we face are liquidity and limited choices in which to invest. But we are hopeful that soon will change. Vietnam has had a fast-growing economy, and we have found good companies there, including some that are state-owned. More importantly, we have also found companies with attractive valuations in Vietnam. Currently, state-owned enterprises account for 40% of Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP), but authorities have affirmed a commitment to a more modern and open economy, which we hope will lead to more privatization.

Thomas Cook signature New York

New Year’s Eve is undoubtedly the biggest party of the year, but where is the perfect place to be when the clock strikes midnight? From breath-taking firework displays to dazzling parades, we’re not the only ones who know how to celebrate in style. I’ve done some research and found three destinations that go all out for their New Year’s Eve parties. New York Times Square has to be the most iconic place for a New Year’s celebration, and it’s one of the biggest parties in the world. One million people descend on the square to watch the famous Waterford crystal ball drop at midnight and the atmosphere is electric. You can buy tickets which give you admission to the square along with entry to the best bars and clubs in the Times Square area; prepare yourself for a party like no other. Thailand If you've ever been to you'll know what an incredible country it is. The New Year's Eve beach parties in Phuket are legendary, thanks to the top acts that perform live on a stage suspended over the sea. In Phuket Town, they have a 3 day countdown festival which starts on the 29th December. Highlights include concerts, contests and food stalls and the festival culminates in a huge firework display at midnight on the 31st. In Bangkok, the festivities vary depending on what district you choose, but you can expect internationally acclaimed DJ’s, ultra-chic nightclubs and spectacular firework displays. Las Vegas As you would probably imagine, certainly has no shortage of New Year celebrations and more than 300, 000 people gather for this epic night. The famous strip is closed to all traffic to become the location for one giant party, then all the casino’s join together to produce a choreographed fireworks display which puts your average display to shame. In the many hotels, bars and clubs along the strip, you’ll find some of the hottest entertainment around; just make sure you dress to impress.

The Stade de France is the national stadium of France, situated just north of Paris in the commune of Saint-Denis. Its seating capacity of 81, 338 makes it the fifth-largest stadium in Europe. The stadium is used by both the France national football team and French rugby union team for international competition. Originally built for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the stadium’s name was recommended by Michel Platini, head of the organising committee. Stade de France is listed as a Category 4 stadium by UEFA and has hosted matches for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League finals in 2000 and 2006, some matches for the 1999 Rugby World Cup, and the 2007 Rugby World Cup, making it the only stadium in the world to have hosted both a Football World Cup final and a Rugby World Cup final. The facility also hosted the Race of Champions auto race in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The stadium hosted the 2003 World Championships in Athletics and since 1999 it has hosted the annual Meeting Areva athletics meet. It will also host some matches at UEFA Euro 2016, including the final. Domestically, the Stade de France serves as a secondary home facility of Parisian rugby clubs Stade Français and Racing Métro 92, hosting a few of their regular-season fixtures. The stadium also hosts the main French domestic cup finals, which include the Coupe de France (both football and rugby), Coupe de la Ligue, Challenge de France, and the Coupe Gambardella, as well as the Top 14 rugby union championship match. The stadium is also used for music concerts and other sporting events. Major acts such as Roger Waters, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, U2, Céline Dion, Muse, AC/DC, Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna, Coldplay, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Madonna, The Police and Mylène Farmer performed here. The facility is owned and operated by the Consortium Stade de France.

A Fascinating and Richly Varied Country The country has several very popular resorts, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Phuket, Ko Samui, and of course, the capital, Bangkok. And while each resort does have its own bustling hub, the overall atmosphere on a Thailand holiday will be one of relaxation, especially if you take the time to visit one of the country's many Buddhist monasteries or temples. If you're visiting Bangkok, be sure to take in the Grand Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and at least one of the city's floating markets. For souvenirs, silk products, pottery and gems are very popular, but remember you aren't allowed to take any Buddha effigies out of the country ¿ no matter what some street sellers may tell you. And bargaining is something of a national sport, so don't be afraid to give it a go - your holiday reminders may well cost you less than you expect. The only place where it isn't the rule is in big department stores. Thanks to its emergence on our own eating out scene, we're now more familiar with typical Thai cuisine here than ever, but the real variations of flavours and spices are something which promise to be a highlight of any Thailand holiday. Experience the Unique Taste of Thai Cuisine Thai people live by the philosophy of eating when they're hungry rather than at set meal times, which means eating is usually very informal. Given that spices feature highly in Thai cuisine, iced water is the usual accompaniment, but a Thai beer is also just as suitable. Beware of wines though - nothing to do with any quality issues, more that they can be hugely expensive. Visiting on a package holiday or all-inclusive holiday will give you a fascinating snapshot of this richly varied country. You might wish to consider a twin-centre holiday, perhaps splitting your time between one of the country's main cities, and a seaside resort.

Kinkakuji, or the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto's many historical tourist attractions. (Photo: Images ) Related Articles Traveling in Asia, especially for North American travelers, might be a bit shocking. Not because the cultures are so vastly different from your own, which is part of the reward of travel, but because it can be so shockingly inexpensive. You could overpay a tour company to book you three separate tours, one each in Japan, South Korea and Thailand, or you could do it yourself and link the three countries together, saving money and having an adventure in the process. The Plan Book a flight into Tokyo and out of Bangkok. A lot of these open-jaw tickets have longer validities than a standard return trip, as airlines expect it to take you a while to get from A to B. Think carefully about the amount of time it will take you to move from Japan, through Korea and then to Thailand and how much time you want to spend in each country. Then follow this rough itinerary to work your way across three of Asia's easier countries to travel in. Buy a Japanese Rail Pass from your country before departing to save huge on rail fees, the major expense in Japan. Check visa restrictions before departure, although American and Canadian citizens can enter Japan, South Korea and Thailand on tourist visas upon arrival. Japan Fly into Tokyo and spend a couple of days experiencing the madness of the world's largest city. You could spend your life here and never quite see or understand it all, but be sure to check out the Sony Showroom for the latest in wacky gadgets and the never-sleep neighbourhood of Shinjuku. Use your rail pass to head west to Kyoto, touring the Golden Pavilion, Kinkakuji and the Gion areas before heading to Osaka and Nara. From Osaka, take the train further west to Kobe and Hiroshima. Be sure to head to Miyajima from Hiroshima to see the floating gates. End your Japanese segment in Fukuoka, where you can book a seat on the high-speed, hydrofoil ferry to Busan, South Korea. South Korea South Korea will probably be the shortest segment of your trip, if only because it's the smallest of the three countries. It only takes three hours to cross the country from Busan in the south to Seoul in the north on the KTX high-speed train. But there's a lot to see and do in Korea, especially in the early spring when cherry blossom festivals take over the nation and in the summer. Busan is home to Korea's best beach (which will pale in comparison to Thailand's beaches) and Korea's unique and fantastic beach culture. Thailand may have the perfect sand and warm waters, but Busan's Haeundae Beach has men with kegs on their back serving draft beer to you under your parasol, festivals every summer weekend and barely an inch of free sand for you to stretch out on. From Busan, take the train to Seoul and spend a few days in one of Asia's shopping hot spots, a cheaper and cooler (literally) version of Singapore. Check out the Dongdaemun and Myeongdong areas for the best shopping before flying out of Incheon International Airport to Phuket. Thailand You may find it hard to leave Phuket. The beaches are as close to perfect as you can get, with white sand and turquoise water the temperature of a bathtub. But when you tire of the ideal beach life, fly to the party zones of Ko Samui and Ko Phangan for both the wilder and the more sedate. Choose from secluded beach bungalows or the full moon parties for an unintentional forgettable experience. From here, skip Bangkok (for now) and fly north to Chiang Mai for a few cool days in the mountains. Do some trekking (on elephants or otherwise) and experience the calmer side of Thailand before returning to Bangkok for spa treatments at a bargain and some of the best food in the world.

As London's brother in the North West, Manchester is one of England's larger cities, home to the biggest airport outside of the capital and a place of great passion. Arguably its best known asset is the world-famous sporting team, Manchester United. The city also hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2002. Naturally, sport is very much a part of the city - but it's not the only thing. Manchester is also a significant hub for art and music with a number of galleries and a flourishing music scene that has produced the likes of Oasis, Joy Division and The Smiths. Millennium Bridge A big part of Manchester's cosmopolitan appeal stems from its incredibly diverse population. Not only does the city's population range in ethnicities, but Manchester is also home to a number of university students and a large gay community. As such the city is regarded to be incredibly open minded, welcoming and is home to a dynamic nightlife and lively festivals including Manchester Pride. But it hasn't always been the vibrant and modern city it is today. Manchester has a rich heritage dating back to Roman times. The city also played a significant part in the industrial revolution and for much of its history was very much an industrial town. As a result, Manchester's historic architecture and museums are considered great highlights of the city.
